Boston Schools Fund is driven by the belief that a child’s access to an excellent education and the potential for a bright and productive future should not be determined by that child’s street address, background, the careers of parents or guardians, or the luck of the draw.
Unfortunately, in Boston, the majority of children are not enrolled in a school that will prepare them for success in college and careers.
Over the next five years, Boston Schools Fund will commit significant financial and administrative support to increase the number of available spaces in high-performing district, charter, and Catholic schools by almost one-third, putting Boston on track to offer a high-performing school to the majority of its children by 2025.
To reach this goal, the Boston Schools Fund will focus its investments in three key areas:
- Increasing the capacity of great schools across sectors to serve more students. The Fund will support the growth, replication, and viability of the strongest schools as the unit of change. Many of Boston’s district, charter, and Catholic schools possess significant strengths and are performing well academically; the Fund will provide the resources and supports to scale these schools. It will also selectively invest in supports to schools that are poised for dramatic improvement.
- Strengthening the talent pipeline to support this expansion. The Fund will invest in programs and services that attract, develop, and sustain teachers and school leaders as the foundation for achieving high performance.
- Reducing system-wide inefficiencies to increase resources available to great schools. By supporting long-term, cost-saving measures within and among the three sectors, the Fund will create efficiencies within and between school systems. This will generate additional public and private dollars that will flow back into schools and human capital.
